HIKVISION USA HAS PARTNERED WITH THE POLICE OF MEMPHIS TO HELP THE COUNTY

City of Industry, Calif – Hikvision USA, based here, got together with the Memphis Police Department (MPD) to protect the residents of Memphis, Tenn. Using a variety of security options to prevent and reduce crime, since 2007, MPD has deployed hundreds of analog and IP cameras and dozens of DVR’s from Hikvision to keep the city safe.

With incidents now being captured on high-quality video surveillance, MPD has reported an increase in cases being taken to court. The city has also built a Real Time Crime Center (RTCC) where they can check live video feeds and provide information to officers before they arrive at the crime scene. Kenneth Schackelford, former technology manager at MPD who has subsequently retired from the force, developed a video surveillance program to monitor Memphis’s critical infrastructure. “I started looking at ways that we could start installing cameras throughout the city”, Shackelford says.

The SkyCop team and MPD use three configurations: cameras attached to utility poles, to buildings and to mobile trailers. To date, the police has established a system of about 600 Hikvision analog and IP bullet and dome (PTZ) cameras around the city. Building headquarters, , are often outfitted with the DS-2CD2032-I, a three MP outdoor bullet camera with a layout that provides easy mounting, according to the company. This camera offers line-crossing and intrusion detection as well,sending alerts to the police when someone enters or leaves a specific area.

Hikvision’s Darkfighter PTZ (DS-2DF8223I-AEL) is also being used. With detection of entrance/exit and audio-loss , the DarkFighter thrives in low-light settings and features 120dB with WDR (Wide dynamic range) and a 23x optical zoom lens – autofocus, the company says.

“We have a video center with plenty of monitors and we can pull up any information given by our cameras around the city”, says Sgt. Joseph Patty, who succeeded Shackelford as MPD Video manager. “We have some cases prosecuted each week thanks to these incidents that are being captured on camera,” Patty ads. “Plus, we’re able do send calls from the RTCC and view live video before the officer even gets on the area.”
